History of the National Black Nurses Association
On July 25th., 2019, the Alliance of Black Nurses Association of IL was chartered as one of the chapters of the National Black Nurses Association in New Orleans under the leadership of the founding President, Beatrice Mbaocha. The National Black Nurses Association (our Umbrella organization) was founded in 1971 by Dr. Laurenne Sam with a mission to investigate, define, determine, and respond to the nursing and healthcare needs of Black Americans.
Mission
Our mission is to serve as the collective voice of advocacy to bridge the global health equity gap and support programs that improve community health outcomes.
We provide opportunities for nurses’ voices to be heard through collaborative partnership and mentorship of prospective racial and ethnic minority nurses.
Vision
Our vision is to be a beacon of support, education, and advocacy, championing the health and well-being of Black Americans. Together, we will strive to create lasting change, ensuring that every individual receives the equitable care they deserve.
Our Goals and Initiative
- To provide Pre-nursing mentorship programs and scholarship support to encourage enrollment into nursing schools.
- To provide menstrual health education, advocacy, and menstrual product supplies to young women facing challenges of menstruation and the associated burden of care
- To provide quality health literacy education workshops to youths, adolescents, and adult populations on emerging public health issues.
- To support the engagement of nurses in short-term global medical mission trips through Take ABNAI to your community mission initiative (For medical and school eye health and vision screening
